Oborewvori commends OFAAC for promotion of Anioma culture

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has commended the Organisation for the Advancement of Anioma Culture (OFAAC) for its resilience and dedication to the promotion and preservation of Anioma culture since its founding over two decades ago.

Oborevwori made the commendation on Easter Monday at the 2025 cultural day celebration of the organisation, which featured various activities, including cultural dances, traditional wrestling, a fluting competition, and an exhibition of cultural artefacts, among others, held in Asaba.

Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the governor applauded the leadership of OFAAC for sustaining the annual cultural festival and urged the sons and daughters of Anioma (Delta North Senatorial District) to uphold their cultural heritage and create a unique identity for themselves.

He urged traditional rulers to continually preach peace within their kingdoms, stating that “the state government prioritises peace and security as part of the core pillars of the MORE Agenda”, adding that Deltans were not known for violence but as industrious and hardworking people.

He expressed gratitude to the Anioma people for their unwavering support before, during, and after the election that brought him to office and urged them to continue supporting his administration.

The governor assured that his administration would not abandon any inherited project in Anioma land and pledged that all ongoing and new projects initiated by his administration would be completed.

The President of OFAAC, Arc. Kester Ifeadi, in his address, revealed plans to establish an Anioma Heritage Home, a museum to house cultural artefacts and preserve Anioma history for future generations.

Ifeadi stated that the annual cultural fiesta, which began in 2003, was focused on preserving, promoting, advancing, and developing the cultural identity of the Anioma people.

He highlighted OFAAC’s microcredit scheme, designed to provide soft loans, especially to farmers, and its annual lecture series aimed at uniting the Anioma people and fostering cultural consciousness.

At the event, which took place at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, the Obi of Owa Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, was conferred with the title of Grand Patron of OFAAC, while the immediate past Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, was named Patron for their contributions to the advancement of Anioma culture.

The highlight of the celebration was the presentation of awards to winners of various competitions by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, alongside other dignitaries.

The event was attended by the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, some members of the Delta State Executive Council, a retinue of traditional rulers from Delta North, including the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN; Local Government Chairmen; and various cultural groups from across the Anioma nation.
