Obiano swears in new commissioner for health, two others

Governor Willie Obiano has sworn in the new Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Ogochukwu Okpala at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Awka, the Anambra state capital.

The governor also swore in two others appointees; Managing Director, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), Mr. Douglass Okafor, an engineer and Special Adviser, Creative Security, retired Air Vice-Marshal, Ben Chiobi.

While the former Health Commissioner, Dr. Joe Akabuike has been deployed to serve as Chairman Board/CEO, Anambra State School of Health Technology, Obosi, Anambra state.

Administering the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance, Acting Director, Citizens Right, Anambra State, Nnedi Okechukwu urged them to be faithful and bear true allegiance to Government.

Gov. Obiano enjoined them to deploy their wealth of knowledge in the discharge of their duties in line with the dictates of the state government.

The Governor re-assured them of his support and assistance toward ensuring continued smooth and peaceful administration.

He commended the past health commissioner for the great and successful record of service within his period in office.

Some of the achievements include accreditation of Medical Department of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), the graduation of the first set of medical students of the same university.

However, Gov. Obiano, caution miscreants and hoodlums to flee from the state, as the new appointee on creative security had fashioned out technical measures to combat crime and criminality in the state.

The former health commissioner, Dr. Akabuike in his reaction, expressed gratitude to the governor for counting him worthy to serve in his government.

Akabuike also commended Gov. Obiano for his support, recalling some excellent achievements that the present administration including the establishment of Anambra Health Insurance Scheme, that would touch not less than 30,000 lives.

Others are the establishment of the biggest Oxygen Gas Production Plant, sustenance of the best immunisation record in the South East, immediate response to health challenges and infectious diseases such as Ebola.

The newly sworn-in health commissioner, Dr. Okpala pledged to sustain the existing achievements in the sector.
