THE Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has issued a certificate of recognition and staff of office to the new Igwe of Ogidi Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Alexander Onyido, as the legitimate monarch of the community.
In his speech during the ceremony held at the Governor’s lodge Amawbia, Awka, Governor Obiano called on the Igwe to always carry every member of the community along and also have regard for the state government that recognises him as the Igwe.
The new Ogidi Community monarch, Igwe Alexander Onyido, thanked Obiano for recognising him as the new Igwe, saying that initially, it was Ogidi working for monarch, but now changed to monarch working for Ogidi, assuring the governor that by accepting the kingship of Ogidi, he would bring peace and harmony to the people of the community.
He said it was a new dawn in Ogidi because for the past nineteen years, the community had been under the control of state government.
Onyido regretted that for the past nineteen years, the community had no king because of the problem in the community because some families in Ogidi fought over kingship as if it was their birth right which resulted in court action whereby court declared that Igwe could come from any part of the community as the community was made up of four quarters namely; Uru, Akanano, Ikenga and Ezinkwo..
He said that being the king of Ogidi Community was a sacrifice and that it was an honor to be the first class citizen of Ogidi, adding that he didn’t want to contest initially because of his commitments, but people massively said he’s their choice so now that the community had made him their Igwe, he had a bigger rows and task now in Ogidi than before.
