Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Monday tasked corps members serving in the state to work for the unity of the country in order to actualize the purpose of the scheme.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Philip Shuaibu, gave the charge on the occasion of the official closing ceremony of the 2017 batch “B” stream II orientation course at the temporary orientation camp in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.
He informed the 2016 corps members that the nation at the moment was undergoing various reforms and developmental challenges in its polity, stressing that they should be part of the positive change and shun corruption and nepotism which have ravaged the entire society.
He said the strength of national cohesion is the vibrancy of the youth and that they should explore areas that needed growth and development in the country through hard-work, dedication, loyalty, discipline, patriotism and commitment, to improve on the lives of Nigerians noting that this is the only way the objectives and set goals of the scheme would be achieved.
He said the effective realization of the scheme will not only promote unity but also foster real integration amongst Nigerians and effect the most meaningful development of the country.
He noted that the government will do all in its power to support the scheme just as he urges them to undertake developmental projects in rural areas which will no doubt encourage the spirit of self-help and patriotism among their host communities.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Abdulahi Yusuf Baba while presenting the 2230 corps members before the state governor, said he was delighted to have welcome them to the state.
He said over 75 per cent of corps members are posted to educational institutions in the state to impart knowledge in the young ones in compliance with the established posting policy of NYSC. The rest consisting of doctors, paramedics and lawyers were posted to rural healthcare centers and the ministry of justice.
