Obaseki
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, on Sunday, continued to consolidate his hold on the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he began senatorial meeting with leaders of the party across the state with a message of determination Make Edo Great Again (MEGA) in accordance with his campaign slogan.
Obaseki kicked off the meeting in Edo North Senatorial District, where he met with leaders of the party in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, LGA, the home town of his deputy Comrade Philip Shaibu
At the meeting, Governor Obaseki called for unity of members of the party insisting that “the umbrella is big enough to accommodate all and sundry, no executive member of the party is bigger than the leaders of the party since they were nominated by the leaders.”
The governor noted that challenges facing Nigeria today were enough to make the PDP win the 2023 presidential election, depending on the level of unity among party members ahead of the election.
In attendance t the meeting were ward, local, senatorial and national leaders of the party drawn from the six local government areas that make up Edo North Senatorial District.
He explained that when he started to roll out political appointments, each ward would have at least one Special Assistant, SA, and each local government area would have at least four Senior Special Assistants, SSAs and one Commissioner.
“No Special Assistant applicant shall be more than 35 years of age. Two women must be given the opportunity to apply for each of the above positions and it must be done transparently,” Obaseki said.
On the efforts of his administration at repositioning the state, the governor disclosed that “the state has made significant progress in the areas of revenue within the last seven months. The state does not have money problems, we do not have much, but what we have is enough to make us go farther than where we are presently, but when there is no clarity, you wouldn’t see the money being raised for projects.”
“Our Government is prepared to bring the best and qualified professionals to deliver services to the people in a more transparent way and means,” he said.
Obaseki rued the slow pace of development in some local government areas which he attributed to some underpopulated local government in Edo North being overstaffed with redundant workers as against one like Oredo, which is overpopulated with a lesser number of staff.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Governor appreciated all the leaders of the party for their support and for committing the governor’s recent victory at the Supreme Court to God.
Chairmen of PDP from the various local government areas in their separate remarks said the party was satisfied with the performance of Governor Obaseki and attributed the success to the commitment of all the stakeholders to the ideals of the party.
