Obasanjo, Makinde to attend ACGS Founder’s Day Ceremony finale

The Apata Community Grammar School (ACGS) Old Students Association began this year’s celebration of the school’s its Founder’s Day with a visit to His Heritage Home, an orphanage located in the same community on Monday, donating gifts of food items and other essentials to the home.

Adewumi Basorun, the national president of the school’s alumni association, highlighted that the visit was part of the activities marking the 44th anniversary of the school’s founding. He noted that the school has achieved significant milestones since its establishment, making this celebration particularly meaningful.

Basorun mentioned that the alumni association has been actively supporting the school with infrastructure and facility upgrades, and they felt it was important to give back to the community through their donation to the orphanage.

The Founder’s Day celebrations will culminate on Thursday with a Gala Night, chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other dignitaries are also expected to attend.

Dr. Abiola Oshodi, chairman of the organising committee of the ceremony, reflected on the school’s beginnings in the 1980s, noting the challenges faced due to a lack of basic facilities. Despite these hurdles, he stated that students of the school excelled academically and in extracurricular activities.

“During our time, we encountered many challenges as one of the newly established schools in the state. However, we remained competitive in academics and sport.

“Today, our alumni are thriving in various fields worldwide. We are coming together not only to support our school but also to uplift those in need within our community. It’s vital to inspire the next generation to become visionary leaders, fostering a safer society free from crime and insecurity,” Oshodi said.
