Obasanjo, Kukah to speak at Foursquare lecture

Published by

“The trying triangle of economy, faith and politics; looking through the eye of the needle” is the thrust of discussion, at the forthcoming 2018 public lecture by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria.

The lecture, scheduled for October 9, at the church’s Yaba, Lagos headquarters will be delivered by Rev Father Mathew Hassan Kukah, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo is the chairman of occasion.

It is also part of activities preceding the 63rd Annual Convention of the church scheduled for Novervenber 12-18, at Foursquare Camp Km 75, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ajebo, Ogun State.

Unveiling the activities for the convention, the General Overseer, Rev Felix Meduoye, noted that the theme of the lecture was informed by the fact that “economy, faith and politics is an interesting mix, especially in Africa where the issue of faith has strong impact in economic and political decisions. “Political appointments are expected to be made in such a way as to balance the different faith in the country and where there is perceived tilt to one side, there is often serious outcry, “he stated

Churches, according to him, have also become a major point for attention and mobilisation for elections by politicians, noting that there was need to consider how the believer would make the right impact of being the light of the world and salt of the earth, challenges in the country.

While emblishing the importance of the lecture which is about four months from the national elections, he said.

“We are of the opinion that at the end of this programme, we would have succeeded in contributing valuable ideas and opinions to the ongoing national discourse, as well as, encourage and motivate Nigerians to show greater interest in the affairs of the nation.”

He was optimistic that the country would overcome its current challenges, but charged the church to continue to pray for the leadership and Nigerians as a whole for restoration of years of devastation of its God-given resources, while proffering the required counsel and advice where necessary to those in leadership.

Rev Meduoye also explained the choice of Rev Kukah and Chief Obasanjo saying while Kukah is a notable priest, social commentator, political activist and a vibrant and respected voice in the nation, Obasanjo, with a strong passion for the growth and development of the country, remained relevant in  national discourse and international circuit.
