Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
NIGERIA’S former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has identified inspired leadership and good governance as the panacea for stable security in the country.
The convener of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) said this against the sidelines of increased security challenges facing the country.
Obasanjo who spoke at the Nigerian chapter of the American Society for Industrial Society (ASIS) 2018 Leadership Retreat held at the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta on Saturday, observed that the security situation under President Muhammadu Buhari is alarmingly poor as against previous administrations.
The theme of ASIS’ 2018 Retreat is “Building Capacity for Professional Growth”
He also noted that weak cultural values and increased underdevelopment continue to pose a threat to Nigeria’s bid to rid herself of worrisome security challenges.
According to Obasanjo “If leadership, governance, development and values within the purview of our culture are right, the threat to Nigeria’s security will be long gone.
“Politics is not synonymous with all that is wrong. We need to reorientate ourselves on the issue of our values,” he said.
The former President, however, lauded private security institutions for contributing to employment generation.
He was presented a lifetime achievement award by the ASIS delegates.
