Prof. Elusiyan
MEMBERS of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, on Thursday protested last Friday’s killing of Professor Jerome Boluwaji Elusiyan by gunmen in Edo State.
The ARD members had converged on the car park of the OAUTHC as early as 9.00 am for a procession and protest over the what they termed gruesome and unwarranted killing of Elusiyan, a professor of paediatrics at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
The doctors later moved to the office of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of OAUTHC, Professor Victor Adetiloye, and the office of the vice-chancellor of OAU, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, where they delivered a letter of protest addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari on the killing of the don.
Addressing the protesters, the president of ARD, OAUTHC chapter, Dr A.E Omoniyi, said: “It saddens my heart to address you today on the gruesome murder of our teacher and friend of Association of Resident Doctors, OAUTHC, Professor Jerome Boluwaji Elutayo Elusiyan.”
“He was murdered in cold blood while he was returning from Ambrose Ali University on Friday, December 13. He went there as an external examiner to supervise their professional examination.
“We are protesting his death because the government has failed in its primary responsibility, which is the protection of lives and properties of the citizenry.
“We demand that justice be done in this case and the perpetrators be brought to book, while the government should step up its security network.”
