NEWLY admitted students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have been charged to desist from any anti-social behaviour that could disrupt the academic calendar and truncate their academic sojourn in the university.

The vice chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, gave the warning at the 2017/2018 matriculation ceremony organised for the 8,158 new students admitted into the various academic programmes of the university.

He particularly warned that the university has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, violent behaviour, flagrant disregard to constituted authorities and sexual harassment.

Professor Ogunbodede said it was necessary for the students to heed the warning in order to safeguard their studentship and ensure successful academic career.

Although he observed that their admission to the university is coming at a time that funds are not readily available for constant provision of municipal services, the ice chancellor assured the new students of the readiness of the university to ensure that issues affecting students are addressed as promptly as possible.

Earlier, the matriculating students had undergone a week-long orientation exercise to familiarise them with the university environment and inculcate into them ethics of the institution.

The annual exercise which is usually packaged by the Division of Students’ Affairs featured special Jumat and interdenominational services, tour of special places on campus and other specialised hall activities.
