OAIC wants S/West governors to draw master plan for region

The Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), South-West zone, wants the governors of the six states in the geopolitical zone to draw a master plan for the development of the area.

It also said that the time had come for the leadership of the zone to do something about insecurity, food security and youth unemployment in the region.

The leadership of OAIC, a group of all indigenous churches operating in and outside of Nigeria, which is also a bloc of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), elected Archbishop Nathaniel Olorunsola as the new president of OAIC, South-West zone at its recent congress held in Abokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Following his emergence, the new South-West zonal leader of OAIC, Archbishop Olorunsola and his executive said in a statement that they would set out with three-day prayers and fasting programme for the success of the new executive as well as the success of the Nigerian and state governments in the zone.

The OAIC, while congratulating the governors of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos and Ondo states, charged the political leaders to fashion out ways to make life easier for the citizenry in the region.

Olorunsola said: “Our advice to our governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, is that he should use his good offices as the chairman of South-West Governors Forum to ensure a good working relationship among the South-West governors so as to have a development master plan for South-West which must be implemented equally.”

The OAIC leadership also wants the Federal Government to revisit the report of the 2014 national conference with a view to implementing some of its recommendations, especially the ones that have to do with the restructuring of the country.

The OAIC expressed the belief that with moves towards implementing some of the recommendations, the country would benefit more than it would lose as a way of entrenching democracy.

The group also advised that funds recovered from criminals and convicted treasury looters in the country should be channelled towards creating profitable establishments like manufacturing concerns, which they said could employ some of the numerous young Nigerians that are unemployed across the country.

It decried the rate of kidnappings in the country as it affects the South West zone, and charged the governors to put security measures in place to bring this to a halt so as to rekindle the socio-economic life of the citizenry.

Archbishop Nathaniel Olorunsola, who is the founder of Living Christ Gospel Church Nigeria and Overseas, domiciled in Ekiti State, was elected at the congress of OAIC in the zone on August 20, and has since commenced his job of shepherding the OAIC flock in the region with a fasting and prayer programme to usher in the new executive.

The Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) is the representative body that brings together African Independent and Instituted Churches (AICs), offers them a forum for sharing their concerns and hopes, and enables churches to minister effectively to the needs of their members and their communities.

The OAIC works to bring African Instituted Churches together in fellowship and to equip and enable them to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
