The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuabu Ibrahim, has revealed that the NYSC Trust fund bill currently before the House of Representatives when passed would help in addressing the challenges confronting the scheme including infrastructural deficit across the orientation camps in the country.

He commended the lawmakers and other stakeholders for their support to the bill especially during the public hearing two weeks ago, expressing optimism that the bill would enjoy the support of the president when passed for the NYSC to achieve its lofty ideals.

The NYSC DG who was represented by the NYSC Ekiti state coordinator, Mrs Mary Chikieze spoke during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch A stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state at the permanent orientation camp in Ise-Orun/Emure.

According to him, “I wish to once again appeal to the appropriate authorities to provide the necessary enablement for the actualization of the Fund.

“This will surely enhance the smooth operation of the Scheme, especially by addressing the challenges of infrastructural deficit and empowering corps members for self-employment and wealth creation.”

While addressing the newly sworn-in corps members at the ceremony, the Director-General commended the zeal demonstrated by the corps members through the acceptance of their deployment and prompt report to the camp.

“My dear compatriots, the Orientation Course is the first cardinal Programme of NYSC and is aimed at introducing you to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme. It is designed to equip you for the tasks of your service year. I, therefore, enjoin you to avail yourselves to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by participating actively in all camp activities.

“Let me also remind you that the oath of allegiance you have taken today is significant, as it is expected to guide your conduct in the service year as well as have an everlasting influence on your life after service,” he said.

“I implore you to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far, especially by remaining compliant with the Camp rules and regulations. I also urge you to avoid using social media to spread fake news and fuel hatred,” he added.

The corps members were also admonished to adhere strictly to the outline preventive measures of curbing COVID-19, take the COVID-19 vaccine and be security conscious at all times.

The administration of the oath of allegiance on the corps members was performed by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice John Adeyeye who was represented by Justice A.O. Familoni.
