NYSC takes free medical outreach to Bauchi communities

For communities in Giade, Katagum and Misau LGAs of Bauchi State, it was a happy moment when the state office of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) took a free medical outreach to them.

The outreach by NYSC which was the second phase is part of its community service and social responsibility to the host under the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) held at Isawa community in Giade Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking at the commencement of the outreach, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Namadi Abubakar, said some of the ailments to be attended to free of charge include malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhoea, cholera, diabetes among others.

Namadi Abubakar explained that the exercise is also open to the people of Misau and Katagum LGAs, adding that any other ailment that superseded the power of the Corps Medical Volunteers would be referred to a more competent hospital for treatment.

He said that, “Our medical team is ready. This is a programme where we need to touch the nooks and crannies of Bauchi state”.

According to him, “We went to Yelwan Duguri and Yashi in Alkaleri Local Government Area during the first phase of the exercise and now we are in Isawa community in Giade Local Government which is a different axis of the state”.

“My expectation is that the people of this community would benefit a lot from this medical outreach because we brought the drugs that will take care of those ailments,” he said.

While speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the 5-day exercise in the community, Alhaji Usman Sale, the Chairman, Giade LGA, commended NYSC for bringing the outreach to the community.

Usman Sale added that the exercise was a gesture he would never forget, saying that it would play a significant role in addressing the health challenges of the people in the community.

He said that, “Whoever comes to give you free medical services like this, I think that’s somebody you open your arms and welcome. We are so glad. When the state Director of NYSC briefed me that they were interested in coming to offer free medical services, I welcomed the idea”.

The Council Chairman added that, “I equally promised that we are going to do everything humanly possible as a government to support the process and here we are today”.

He further disclosed that, “We have also supported the programme with drugs worth N350,000 and accommodations to NYSC officials, doctors and paramedics participating in the programme”.

Usman Sale however, called on the people of the community to come out to avail themselves of the opportunity to benefit from the free medical outreach.

Some of the beneficiaries of the program commended the NYSC for the gesture describing it as a service to humanity just as they said that they will never forget what the NYSC has done for them.
