The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) under its Health Initiative for Rural Development, (HIRD) programme has offered free medical services to rural dwellers in Ekiti state.
The Ekiti Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Mary Chikezie who spoke during the event in Aduloju farm settlement in Ijan-Ekiti, in Gbonyin local government area on Monday said the programme was part of the scheme’s effort at making health care services available to residents who live in the hinterlands.
Chikezie said the 2021 medical outreach tagged, “Health is Wealth for Advancement,” would in no small measure enhance quality health care services to benefiting communities.
She encouraged Nigerians, who reside in the localities, where the medical outreaches are taking place to avail themselves of the opportunities, promising them that the exercise would be sustained in the interest the downtrodden.
The beneficiaries canvassed for regular access to free health services from governments and philanthropic organisations.
Some of the rural dwellers including a 50-year-old man, Mr Fatai Adejumo, Mrs Mary Aduloju and Mrs Funmilayo Chukwuma said the call became necessary to enable them to access and improve on their health status.
Speaking with newsmen, shortly after benefiting from NYSC free health services, Adejumo said, ” Some of us, who live here, may not have the money to go for regular medical check-ups, but through we have known much about our healths.
“The governments and organisations should please bring us free health services on regular basis and that will be appreciated.”
The beneficiaries were tested on high blood pressure and temperatures among others as well as administered drugs “free -of- charge.”
