NYSC mobilisation: MAPOLY students protest non-release of results

Protesting students

STUDENTS of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, on Monday morning, lock up the main entrance to the institution, protesting non-release of the Second Semester examinations.

The students who had completed their Higher National Diploma (HND) said that the alleged refusal of members of the academic staff to mark and collate their results had deprived them of being mobilised for 2018 Batch ‘A’ of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The NYSC camp opened on (Monday) yesterday for the prospective Corps members across the country.

The protesting students led by the National Association of Nigerian Students, Ogun State axis, Comrade Olawale Balogun, described the development as unfortunate.

He wondered why the results of the examinations conducted in January would not be ready months after.

Balogun said they were being subjected to unfair treatment from the parties concerned.

The protesting students vowed that the school gate would remain perpetually shut until their results are released.

Tribune Online recalled that crisis began in the institution following the transformation of the school to a University of Science and Technology by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led government.

When reached to comment on the students’ action, the institution’s Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Mr Kola Abiola, declined comment.
