The National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) in Kano, has donated wheelchairs to four physically challenged students in the state.

The state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ladan Baba, while presenting the wheelchairs to the beneficiaries on Thursday in Kano, said the gesture is part of their social responsibilities to the society.

According to him, the donation was made in conjunction with American Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Grace Project International and the NYSC Community Development Services (CDS) charity group.

He said, “the gesture, which is also part of the charity activities of the scheme, is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the physically challenged persons in the state.”

The Coordinator disclosed that the beneficiaries were selected from Bebeji, Tarauni, Dala and Karaye Local Government Areas of the state.

He assured the beneficiaries that the donation was just the beginning of more assistance and support, saying that it would soon be extended to other physically challenged persons.

He charged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the wheelchairs so that it will reduce the challenges they are facing in terms of their movements.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reports that the NYSC in Kano also presented motorcycles to three of its Local Government Inspection Officers, (LGIO) to facilitate their movement and enable them discharge their duties effectively.

According to the coordinator, “the aim of providing the officers with the motorcycles was to complement the Kano State Government development programmes tagged (Lungu Kal-kal and Karkara Assalamu alaikum).”

The NYSC boss said the beneficiaries are from Kumbotso, Dawakin Tofa, and Warawa Local Government Areas.

Baba appealed to the State Government to assist the scheme’s medical team with a mobility to reduce the transportation problem being faced by the team.

He said that the NYSC was fully ready whenever the state government provides vaccines for the Meningitis, to mobilise its medical team for the immunisation exercise.
