Brigadier General Suleiman Kazure
THE Director General of the National Youth Service Corps {NYSC}, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazure, has declared that the welfare of corps members in Niger State is not good enough, thereby urging the state government to implement a sum of N5,000 as state allowance.
Kazure stated this last week after an inspection visit to Niger State NYSC Orientation Camp in Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
According to the apparently angered DG, the attitude of Niger State government to corps members in the state was not satisfactory; he therefore called for an effort towards improving it.
He stated further that though the facilities at the state’s NYSC orientation camp were manageable, the state government needed to put in concerted efforts towards the actualisation of a permanent orientation camp in the state.
Addressing the 2017 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members, the NYSC boss warned the corps members against getting involved in any form unworthy dealings, as he also cautioned female corps members to shun indecent dressings. As well as attending night parties, “saying avoid indecent dressing, dress like graduates and not prostitutes.”
He also charged them to respect the traditions and culture of their host communities, emphasising that they should endeavour to abide by the rules and regulations of the communities they would be posted to, so that they could live peaceably with the people.
Earlier in his remarks, Deputy Governor, Niger State, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Ketso advised the corps members to explore the scheme’s entrepreneurial and skills acquisition programmes.
Meanwhile, the state’s NYSC coordinator, Mrs Theresa Ibukun Arokoyo disclosed that so far, 1,906 corps members had been registered in the Batch A Stream 1 orientation course.
