NYSC bids temporary camp bye in Anambra

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra, says it will no longer hold Orientation Course for Corps members at its temporary camp in Umunya, Oyi Council Area of the state.

Mr Kehinde Aremu, Coordinator of NYSC in Anambra said this during the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch B Stream Orientation Course on Monday.

Aremu said the Progressive Secondary School facility owned by the Anglican Church which had served as a temporary camp for years was now undergoing massive construction and that there was no more parade ground.

He said the site was being used as a location for the university project which the church got approval for.

He thanked the Anglican Bishop on the Niger, owners of the facility and Umunya community, its landlords for their patience and cooperation, while the NYSC lasted there.

Aremu expressed confidence that the permanent camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu would be ready before the next orientation camp as promised by Gov Willie Obiano.

“I want to thank my Lord for the Bishop on the Niger, who not only made the campsite available but suspended at great cost the commencement of other construction work until the end of the course.

“Needless to say that the excavation and earthwork that will commence on this parade ground in the next few days spells the final unavailability of Progressives Secondary School Umunya for camping purposes henceforth,” he said.

Aremu said all the 1,615 corps members who registered in Anambra successfully completed the course, adding that posting was biased in favour of the educational and healthcare sectors.

He said postings on subsequent editions would be based on a request from corps members’ employers while urging them to take full responsibility of their employees and assign the task to them in order to get the best out of them.

In his speech, Obiano said that works were in top speed at the permanent campsite and assured that it would be delivered by November.

Obiano, who was represented by Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the State Government, congratulated the new corps members and charged them to do their best while serving their fatherland in Anambra.

He added that his administration would continue to take the best care of corps members.

The governor, who said eight corps members who served in the state were employed in 2018 announced the procurement of 500 life jackets for corps members in coastal areas and N10, 000 for those serving in rural areas.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four corps members, who won the Essay Competitions received prizes.
