Lagos State University (LASU) has announced Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department as the overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session, having achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93.
The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, during a pre-convocation press conference held at the university’s main campus in Ojo on Thursday.
The press conference marked the commencement of LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony, which is scheduled to take place between April 3 and April 10, 2025.
She said, “I am delighted to announce that Nwosu Isioma Sybil of the Biochemistry Department with a CGPA of 4.93 (First Class Honours) is our overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session.”

The VC also disclosed that a total of 8,711 students completed their first-degree programmes, with 192 earning first-class honours. Additionally, 3,076 students graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class, and 39 with a pass. Seventeen students were also awarded unclassified MBBS and BDS degrees.
A total of 2,235 postgraduate students will also be conferred with degrees. Among them, 302 obtained Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 earned Academic Master’s degrees, 639 received Professional Master’s degrees, 125 were awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 obtained Professional Doctoral degrees.
In addition to the academic awards, the university will confer honorary doctorate degrees on Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State, and Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, in recognition of their contributions to the university and the nation.
The VC equally noted that 971 students completed diploma programmes, with 123 earning distinctions, 550 obtaining upper credits, 287 receiving lower credits, and 11 finishing with a pass.
