Nwaoga backs Nnamani as Southeast APC Leader

THE founding Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Chief Anike Nwaoga, has thrown his weight behind Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for installing former Senate President, Ken Nnamani as APC Leader in the Southeast geo- political zone.

Addressing a press conference in Enugu on Friday, Nwaoga described Nnamani as the most qualified person to lead APC in the Southeast zone, being a former Senate President who occupied the third most powerful position in the country.

He explained that Okorocha, who ordinarily should be the leader of APC in the Southeast as the only governor, saw the qualities in Nnamani and chose to concede the position of Southeast APC leader to the former Senate President.

Nwoga said those questioning Nnamani’s appointment on the grounds that he just joined the party were talking “nonsense” and should be disregarded.

He made it clear that everybody in the party has equal rights, saying, “The issue of whether one joined yesterday or 10 years ago is immaterial”

Nwoga noted that somebody may be in the party for 10 years without achieving anything and somebody who joined yesterday would do better.

The ex-Coordinator of defunct “Jim Vanguard” said some people who claimed to be APC leaders in the South-East in the past were not even accessible, but Nnamani runs an open door policy and answers his phone calls all the time.

“South-East APC members went to meeting at Owerri. During the meeting Governor Okorocha who is the leader of APC in the South-East appointed Senator Ken Nnamani as leader of the party in the zone.

“Governor Okorocha did this without consulting anybody, even Ken Nnamani himself. We believe Okorocha being the leader of the party and seeing the leadership qualities in Nnamani decided to concede the position of party leader to him.

“Some people are saying, why it should be Ken Nnamani. Nnamani is 100 percent eminently qualified to be leader of APC in South-East. He was the third man in the country being Senate President. Nobody in APC is more qualified for that position than Nnamani. Governor Okorocha is a wise person. He is an intelligent person. He has done a great favour to APC” Nwoga said.

The APC chief described Senator Ken Nnamani as a great son of Igboland and a decent one for that matter, saying that since he joined APC prominent Igbos have been trooping into the ruling party.

Nwoga said with the caliber of somebody like Nnamani, Igbos will get what they want in Nigeria.

He noted that Nnamani did not lobby anybody to get the position of South-East APC leader, but Okorocha whole-heartedly and without consulting anybody, gave it to the former Senate President.
