Delta Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with financial inducement to influence the forthcoming Preliminary Training School (PTS) Examination organised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in collaboration with the Delta State Ministry of Health.

According to a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme on Thursday, the suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, was apprehended following credible intelligence and swift action by officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department of the State Police Command.

The statement said the individual was allegedly caught attempting to influence the examination process by offering financial incentives to compromise the system and gain undue advantage for certain candidates.

“The examination, which serves as a critical step in the training and certification of student nurses, is conducted under strict guidelines to uphold the integrity and standards of the nursing profession hence the authorities acted promptly to preserve the sanctity of the examination process and ensure that justice takes its course.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged accordingly upon the conclusion of investigations with a view to ensuring the matter get to its logical conclusion.”

The statement reaffirmed the state government zero-tolerance stance on all forms of examination malpractices and unethical conducts and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure that anyone found culpable would face the full wrath of the law.

It further advised all candidates, parents, and other stakeholders to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities as integrity, transparency, and professionalism remain the bedrock of the healthcare system and the training of future nurses.
