NURHI 2 supports PHC with equipment, educational materials

In furtherance of the care of mothers and children, Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI 2) has complemented the government’s effort at providing health facilities with hospital equipment and educational materials at the Primary Healthcare level.

NURHI’s team leader in Oyo State, Mrs Stella Akinso handling over the donation at the Koseohunti Primary Healthcare Centre, stated that the pieces of equipment were to strengthen healthcare service provision, including family planning, close to where people need it.

Akinso declared: “This is part of our own support to ensure that they provide quality service to the people. Under the interfaith set up by NURHI 2, we have been working with Apostle David Adeleke, who is mainstreaming family planning into religious activities so much so that the contraceptive uptake in all those places, where he was working, had gone up.

“Apostle Adeleke’s church set up the Koseohunti PHC which he handed over to the government. It is affiliated to Ibadan North West local government.

“What we are doing now is to complement his effort by supplying all these equipment to ensure they provide quality service to clients who come in for maternal and healthcare services. It is not only family planning (FP) they are doing here.”

Apostle Adeleke, the Presiding pastor, Jesus Kingdom Evangelical Ministry, Ologuneru, Ibadan said FP had a biblical basis and early in life understood the importance of couples giving birth to the number of children, they can manage.

The clergy declared: “The way I was born, gave me strength and passion to do what I am doing as a pastor. I was born in a family with 18 children were number 14.

“My father was unable to train us. I made up my mind that whatever I can contribute to our society to ensure that individuals give birth to what the number of children they can cater for I will do in life.”

Apostle Adeleke said the church had continued to support the Koseohunti PHC established 14 years ago, even with nurses, adding that he had also trained over 2000, including his pastors, to be FP advocates.

Ibadan Northwest Primary Healthcare coordinator, Mrs Abimbola Adedugba said the donation was great support and encouragement for service delivery.
