NUPRC seeks military support in tackling crude oil theft

The Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe, on Monday, sought the support of the military in tackling crude oil theft in the country.

Mr Komolafe made this request when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff(CDS), General Lucky Irabor, in his office in Abuja, as part of his strategic engagements with critical stakeholders.

He said the support was imperative as the NUPRC is responsible for the technical, operational and commercial regulation of the Upstream sector, and it is geared to optimise the benefits of the nation’s hydrocarbon resources.

He reiterated the critical role of the CDS to the success of Upstream investments in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria, even as he appealed for stakeholders’ collaboration and partnership to deal with all security issues affecting the industry.

In his response, General Irabor assured the Commission of the armed forces’ support in the fight against oil thieves.

He also expressed concerns over the menace of oil theft and assured that the armed forces are on top of the situation as current operational strategies are targeted at eliminating such incidences.

He requested detailed proposals that will ensure proper collaboration with all stakeholders.
