NUPENG assures motorists of regular supply of petrol during Easter

THE Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday assured motorists of the regular supply of petroleum products during the Easter period and beyond.

The Lagos Zonal Chairman of the union, Mr Tayo Aboyeji, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.

Aboyeji said that the petroleum tanker drivers would work throughout the holiday to ensure that filling stations in the South West got sufficient products.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Managing Director, Dr Maikanti Baru, has assured us that major marketers depots, private depots and NNPC depots are loading products.

“I can boldly tell you that Ejigbo in Lagos, Mosinmi in Ogun and Ibadan depots, all in South-West, have enough petrol for distribution now and we are playing our part to ensure the product gets to final destinations.

“We want to assure motorists that all filling stations in the South-West will be flooded with products, therefore they should not engage in panic buying.

“Nobody should pray to experience what Nigerians went through during the Yuletide holiday.

“NNPC GMD has assured Nigerians that there won’t be scarcity of petroleum products again and we believe him,’’ he said.

Aboyeji advised the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to extend its operations to other locations to decongest Apapa Port and end gridlocks in the area.

He said those tanker drivers had no intention of causing gridlock on the road, adding that articulated vehicles blocked them from accessing their depots.

Aboyeji urged the management of NPA to extend the port infrastructure to accommodate incoming trucks as they were the ones blocking other road users.

He also appealed to Federal Government to repair Apapa Oshodi express Road to reduce the gridlock in the area.
