NUP Niger appeals first line charge for monthly pension allownace

Published by

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Niger State Council has expressed appreciation to Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago for the prompt payment of monthly pensions to its members while appealing to him to, as a matter of concern, place monthly pension allowances on first-line charges by the government.

In a passionate appeal letter addressed to Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago by the General Secretary of the Union, Elder Actor Zal requested that he pay pensioners their outstanding accumulated pension arrears and gratuities inherited from the immediate past administration in the state.

The letter also reads in part, “I urged the Mr.Governor, Rt. Hon. Umaru Bago, in view of the foregoing, to kindly beam a bright light on the plights of pensioners in the state and pay them their legally owed entitlements’.

Recall that in an earlier separate letter written to the Governor dated March 15, 2024, by the Nige Ria Union of Pensioners, Niger State Council, and signed by the State Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Baba Sani, the pensioners informed the Governor, Rt. Hon. Umaru Bago, that pensioners are really suffering and appealed to him to do the needful by addressing their plights.

The letter informed the governor to address some critical areas, which include gratuity and consequential adjustment of pension, adding that since 2019, when the Federal Government approved the adjustment, the Niger state government has not implemented it.

He further called for the harmonisation of monthly pensions and the settlement of contribution pensions, highlighting that many pensioners have died without accessing their entitlements.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NIGER State Council, thereby appeals to the senior citizens in the state to cooperate and show understanding as the Union pursues their legitimate entitlements with the state government.
