THE Ebonyi Executive Council(SEC) of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has suspended its Deputy President, Mrs Rebecca Onwe, indefinitely over acts of misconduct and gross insubordination.
The union in a resolution signed by its State President, Mr Leonard Nkah and the Secretary, Mr Victor Adebayo, said Onwe conducted herself in a manner demeaning to the integrity of the union.
According to the resolution, Onwe conducted herself in a manner demeaning to the integrity of the union during the screening of members of the State/Local Government Pension Boards by theHouse of Assembly.
“The deputy president on discovering that another candidate was nominated to represent NULGE on the board and was being screened, flared-up at the assembly complex.
“She accosted the state president of the union and rained abuses on him among other unprintable utterances,” the statement read.
The noted that in reviewing the subject, members took into consideration the fact that the action in contention was not the making of the state president.
“The issue of reconstituting the board and replacement of Onwe, was borne out of the need to accord fair representation to all zones in the state.
“The State Executive Council also noted that the matter of representation of NULGE on the board was a constitutional one in which individuals so selected are deemed to be representing the state president and not as a position given to the deputy president as a matter of right to her person.
“The SEC felt that an officer of the calibre of the deputy president ought to know the importance of her exalted office which does not warrant the occupier to engage in an act of arrogance or any action capable of bringing the union to disrepute.
“The SEC regarded the actions as unacceptable and a disgrace to the union in the state and a motion was moved and unanimously supported to suspend her indefinitely with immediate effect.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Onwe was the representative of the union in the pension board which was dissolved by the state government.
