The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Delta State chapter has commenced mass rally at Effurum, Warri to protest against non-payment of salaries to local govt staff in the state
The workers are demanding the urgent payment of the money, ranging between eight and 13 months.
Secretary of the union in Delta State, Comrade Peter Ene said the protest will take place in the three senatorial zones of the state, commencing with the Delta Central Senatorial zone.
“We are demanding for immediate payment of 8 to 13 months arrears of salaries from the state government and we are also saying no to percentage payment of salaries.
“The protest rally will continue throughout the senatorial zones and Asaba, the state capital until the state govt resolve our grievances. Though the rally was very peaceful however there were heavy traffic due to the actions of the workers who were marching along major roads leading in and out of warri town,” he said.
