NUJ zonal secretary, Abdulrazak, emerges Zamfara federal poly alumni president

The Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, in its first national convention 41 years after its establishment, has elected Abdulrazak Bello Kaura, the Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) North West, as the National President of the Alumni Association of the institution in the state.

During its inaugural National convention, 41 years after the establishment of the institution, the Polytechnic of Kaura Namoda formed the Alumni.

Abdulrazak Kaura, the North West NUJ secretary, scored 124 votes during the election held at the institution, defeating his closest opponent, Viashima Leonard, who scored 112 votes. This was announced by Mr. Audu Yahwa, the Chairman of the Association’s first convention Adhoc planning Committee.

“Abdulrazak Bello, having scored the highest votes and met the requirements, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” said Audu Yahwa.

Other contestants who returned unopposed were Hassan Bamidele (Vice President), Rimamyang Amos (Secretary), Ezekiel Luka (Assistant Secretary), Kabiru Ibrahim (Financial Secretary), Abdulsabur Hassan (Treasurer), Idris Garba (Welfare Officer), and Olufemi Ebenezer as Publicity Secretary.

The Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda was established in 1982 and now has over fifty thousand graduates in different disciplines.

During his remarks, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr Muhammad Yahaya Bande, congratulated the first executives for their victory, stating that the Alumni convention was long overdue after 41 years. He emphasized the need for Alumni to initiate ways of giving back to the Alma mater and supporting members in need.

In his acceptance speech, the National President of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda Alumni Association, Comrade Abdulrazak Bello Kaura, expressed the association’s commitment to work assiduously to eliminate the dichotomy between HND and BSc.

“Polytechnics, especially the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, produce well-skilled graduates that can compete with their counterparts from any institution in Nigeria. Why the dichotomy?” he asked.

“We shall struggle to ensure the elimination of the unnecessary dichotomy responsible for the low number of technologists and causing decay in the country’s technological development. We need to join hands with all stakeholders to succeed,” Abdulrazak Kaura stated.
