NUJ wants Zulum to stop Maiduguri flood

Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ Borno State Council has called on the Borno state government to construct more drainages to de-flood the state capital.

Rising from a council meeting the council said that the flooding has become an issue of concern as such there was an urgent need to tackle it from all front.

In a communique signed by the secretary Mohammed Ibrahim, the council said it identified with the achievements recorded since the takeoff of the Governor Babagana Zulum led administration in the state which saw to the completion of numerous projects across the state.

“The Union has been following with keen interest the ten pact agenda since the inception of the present administration and commends completion of many projects which stands at one hundred and seventy across the three sensational zones of the state and payment of gratuity to retired civil servants.

” NUJ equally supports the demolition of illegal structures and brothels to end criminality as well as the full-scale evacuation of waste in the state capital.” It stated.

The council went on “we equally call on the state government to do more in the areas of flood control by constructing drainage networks in the affected areas to check perennial flooding and drilling of boreholes to improve portable water supply in local Government areas such as Magumeri, Gubio, Nganzia, Guzamala and other areas in need.

“NUJ again calls on State Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) to avail themselves for quarterly press briefings on their operations which will invariably raise awareness and mobilize citizen participation in government programmes and improve the mechanism service delivery to people.

“NUJ assures of improved partnership with the government and all stakeholders through effective reportage and professional conduct to promote Borno’s recovery drive and security of citizens.” It noted
