NUJ press week: Onicha LG boss bags best Chairman award

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State Council, has recognized Hon Chidiebere Uzor Agwu (Obosi), the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, as the overall best-performing Chairman in the state.

Uzor received the award from the National President of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, during the grand finale of the 2023 Ebonyi NUJ Press Week held at the council’s Sam Egwu Press Centre, Enugu Expressway, Abakaliki.

The Chairman of NUJ in the state, Comrade Samson Nwafor, announced that the Onicha Local Government Area Chairman emerged as the best in a poll conducted by a committee set up by the union to assess the performance of council Chairmen in the state.

Nwafor commended the Chairman for his numerous people-oriented projects across the communities in Onicha. He highlighted that the Onicha Chairman was the first council Chairman in the state to purchase cars and build 3-bedroom bungalows for elected Councilors, among other empowerment programs.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Chidiebere Uzor thanked the Ebonyi NUJ for finding him worthy to receive the award, expressing that the recognition would inspire him to do more.

“I am very happy to be here today, receiving this prestigious award. NUJ is a crucial and highly respected body. I must thank my leader and Governor, Rt. Hon. Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for creating the enabling environment for council Chairmen to work and touch lives. I, therefore, dedicate this award to him.

“I promise NUJ, the people of Onicha, and Ebonyi State in general, that I will continue to do my best for the development of Onicha and my very dear people of Onicha LGA,” he said.

The award was presented to him by the National President of NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, and stakeholders of the council accompanied him.”
