The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of one of its members and the State Correspondent of The Standard Newspaper, Mathew Jwantu.
The NUJ conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and acknowledged the profound impact of Jwantu’s demise not only on his loved ones but also on the entire community of journalists in Niger State.
In a condolence message extended to the family on behalf of the Union, Comrade Abu Nmodu, the State Chairman of NUJ, expressed the Union’s profound grief upon receiving the sad news of Jwantu’s passing.
He highlighted the substantial contributions that the late journalist had made to the growth and advancement of the Union, particularly during State Congresses and other NUJ activities.
Describing Mathew Jwantu as a gentle, courageous, diligent, and vibrant journalist with an unwavering passion for the profession, Comrade Abu Nmodu acknowledged the exceptional dedication with which Jwantu carried out his duties.
While acknowledging the pain caused by the loss, the Chairman of NUJ also offered some solace by pointing out that Jwantu had led a fulfilling life. He expressed the Union’s collective mourning for Mathew Jwantu while also consoling themselves with the knowledge that he left a positive impact during his time.
Comrade Abu Nmodu extended his heartfelt sympathies to the members of the State Correspondents Chapel, urging them to view the loss as an act of God and to find strength in unity and shared experiences.
In conclusion, Comrade Abu Nmodu offered his prayers for the repose of Mathew Jwantu’s soul, beseeching God to grant him eternal rest. He also prayed that the bereaved family would find the fortitude to cope with the immeasurable loss during this challenging period.
