NUJ decries return of incessant attacks, insecurity in Zamfara

The Zamfara state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists( NUJ), has regretted the return of incessant attacks and other forms of insecurity across the state.

In a Communique issued at the end of the Congress held during the weekend, signed by zamfara state council Chairman Ibrahim Musa Maizare and Secretary Ibrahim Ahmed Gada advised state government to set up a special security committee with membership of traditional rulers, retired security personnel,relevant stakeholders to assist in bringing out more ideas of how to end the menace in the state.

The Union commend the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal for it’s resolve to introduce State Security Trust Fund as parts of its measures towards addressing the security situation in the state.

The NUJ Congress also called on the state government to unveil plans for distribution of palliatives to people of the state to cushion the devastating effects of fuel subsidy removal.

“There is serious need of distribution of foodstuff and other necessary items to common man across the state”.

The Congress commended Governor Dauda Lawal for the payment of Three months backlog workers’ salary of March, April and May 2023, in addition to payment of pensions within his one-month period of administration.

The Union while acknowledging the resolve of the state government towards sanitizing the payroll of civil servants, also appealed for speedy process as currently many civil servants whose salary are hanging are in serious hardship.

“The congress also regretted the return of incessant attacks and other forms of insecurity across the state and its negative impact on the people, called on the State Government to strengthen on its efforts by collaborating with Federal Government in addressing the menace”.

“The Congress further advised government to immediately set up a special security committee with membership of traditional rulers, retired security personnel from the state as well as other relevant stakeholders to assist in bringing out more ideas of how to end the menace in the state”.

The Congress described the recent provision of job opportunities to one thousand five hundred (1,500) youths by Governor Dauda Lawal, hope the number of beneficiaries would be increased considering the number of youth unemployment roaming in across the state.

The Congress gave a pass mark Governor Dauda Lawal for appointing some of its members into the positions of Managing Directors and Media Managers of Various Media outfits in the state.

The Union commended the management of the State-owned Publishing Company (Publisher of the Legacy Newspaper) under its new Managing Director Ahmad Sani Tsafe for restoring production within the shortest possible time and called on the state government to equip the Organization with additional modern facilities for improved productivity.

The Congress also called on the state government to include behind Gusau Hotel in Nasarawa area into it’s ongoing Gusau township roads rehabilitation projects as report shows that recently two people in the area lost their lives as a result of flood.

The congress reminds Governor Dauda Lawal on his earlier pledge to overhaul NUJ Press Center in Gusau to international standard, no doubt this will provide a conducive atmosphere,boost the moral of all working journalists in the state.
