NUJ condemns JED operations in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the operations of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) in Bauchi State.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Council Secretary, Isah Garba Gadau, the Union expressed its displeasure over the activities of JED officials, particularly their unnecessary disconnections of customers with prepaid meters in an attempt to force them back to estimated billing.

“The Bauchi State Council of NUJ observed a lacuna in the payment for power supply under estimated billing, especially for services not rendered, including payments for darkness,” the statement read.

The Union also criticized the actions of some JED officials who deliberately frustrate and embarrass customers, including those with prepaid meters, in an attempt to force them to adopt estimated billing for their personal benefits.

The Union advised the State Government, Ministries, and Agencies to explore alternative power supply options to save money from the outrageous estimated bills they receive monthly.

NUJ further called on JED management to engage trained personnel with good human relations skills to provide effective service to their customers.
