THE National Universities Commission (NUC) says the first proposed private university in Jigawa State, Khadija University, Majiya (KUM), has crossed10 out of 14 formal stages of the commission to obtain final approval and operational license.
This was disclosed by the NUC acting director on establishment of private universities, Professor Aminu Abba, during an inspection visit to the permanent site of the university.
He expressed satisfaction over progress made so far at the site.
According to Professor Abba, that was the second time the commission would have visited the university site, adding that, the commission would not compromise the standard of the Federal Government on educational policy for private universities.
He noted that the aim of the second visit was to fulfill part of the NUC’s constitutional obligation and to inspect the structural setup of the institution for approval.
Also speaking, chairman, Planning and Implementation Committee, Khadija University, Majiya, Professor Sagir Adamu Abba, commended the team for the visit at such an appropriate time, despite the huge task before them at various proposed private universities across the country.
He then lauded the founder of the university, Mr Adam Musa Majiy, whom he described as patriotic, hard-working and selfless towards the teeming populace of Jigawa State.
In her remarks, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Yelwa Da’u, who represented Governor Muhammad Abubakar Badaru, said the state government would do its best to support the university and ensure its functionality for the benefit of the people of Jigawa State.
