The programme, it was learnt was developed by NTI in conjunction with the Centre for Environmental Education, Ahmedabad, India and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Environment.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director General /Chief Executive of NTI, Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare and made available to Nigerian Tribune in Kaduna.

According to the statement, environmental issues and it’s challenges have in the last two decades dominated national and international discourse.
It posited that Nigeria like other countries faces several serious environmental problems that threaten it’s sustainable development plans.
“Some of the environmental problems and issues that need to be addressed include deforestation, desertification, erosion, oil spillage, air pollution, soil pollution, waste management, sewage treatment, environment degradation and climate change.
Thus, the Advanced diploma programme was introduced to meet of with the various environmental issues, saying it will expose the students to understand these issues.
To this end, the course will be run as a distance learning programme under the Green Teacher Project.
The statement also said the programme was designed for in-service teachers and it would involve two compulsory contact sessions, module-based assignments, project writing and final written examinations.
NTI is expected to start the programme by September, 2018, the statement concluded.
