The National Teachers Institute has said the capacity building workshop for teachers under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) project was aimed at improving the quality of teaching in our schools.
This was disclosed by the Director General and Chief Executive of the National Teachers Institute, Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, during the flag-off of 2016 nationwide capacity building workshop for teachers under the SDGs in Bauchi.
He said the SDG project was an off-shoot of the Millineum Development Goals project that was mounted to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and diseases among members of the United Nations.
“Nigeria being one of such communities has wholeheatedly embraced the SDGs programme, and the present administration is deeply committed to seeing through the implementation of the project,” he said.
Azare remarked that the prompt released of funds for the project is a sure pointer to the commitment of the federal government to ensure success of the programme.
To this end, he said NTI, on its part, would support the federal government, and that the pedigree of the institute in the training and retraining of Nigerian teachers over the years has earned it respect and confidence of successive governments.
In his own remarks, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwukah, charged participants at the workshop to utilise the knowledge that they would acquire.
He said at the end of the workshop, teachers would have been exposed to the best practices and new knowledge and skills of teaching.
He urged participants to share their experience with those teachers that did not get the opportunity to attend the programme.
