NSSEC trains officers in Unity schools, others

The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) in Nigeria has expressed its commitment to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in senior secondary schools. The Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Professor Iyela Ajayi, made this statement during a 2-day workshop for key schedule officers from selected Federal Unity Colleges and State Senior Secondary Schools in Abuja.

Professor Ajayi emphasized the need to address challenges in the sub-sector, including infrastructure decay in some secondary schools. The workshop’s theme, “Attaining the Sustainable Development Goal 4: Senior Secondary Education in Perspective,” reflects the Commission’s focus on improving education quality. Professor Ajayi highlighted initiatives such as the development of a National Policy on Senior Secondary Education, awaiting publication and launching for dissemination.

NSSEC has also conducted capacity-building workshops for selected teachers in specific regions. In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration, the Commission is seeking collaboration with development partners for technical and financial support in senior secondary education. The workshop serves as a platform for exchanging insights, strategies, and best practices to enhance educational experiences for both students and educators.
