NSCIA, MURIC seek action on Southern Kaduna killings

Published by

THE Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has condemned the destructions of lives and properties going on in Southern Kaduna.

The council, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, denounced the events, saying they ran contrary to the fundamental Islamic law which, it said, ordains human life to be sacred and forbids its unlawful destruction.

The NSCIA, in a statement by its Director of Administration, Ustaz Christian Isa Okonkwo, called on the federal and Kaduna State governments to step in and stop the gruesome acts.

“The NSCIA would like the Federal and Kaduna State governments to go a step further by proffering lasting solutions to these recurrent acts of hatefulness and savagery in Southern Kaduna.

“We also wish to call on the Federal Government to objectively investigate the matter and prosecute whoever that is found guilty, irrespective of the person’s tribe, creed and/or social status.

“We urge all Nigerians to continue to promote justice, preach, teach and live in peace with one another. We enjoin all Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used by forces of evil, some of which may hide behind tribal, political or even religious garbs in order to perpetrate these heinous acts”, NSCIA said.

In the same vein, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) condemned the killings, saying “human life is sacred and nobody has the right to take the life of a fellow human being.”

MURIC, in a statement by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, urged the Federal Government to deploy security personnel in the area, and expressed support for the Senate’s decision to probe the crisis.

“We remind all stakeholders that both The Qur’an and The Bible enjoin caution in cases like this. The two scriptures ask mankind to investigate all cases before jumping to conclusions.

“We remind the Federal Government that the primary duty of government is to protect the citizens’ lives and properties. Article 14 Section 2(b) of the 1999 Constitution states that ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government’”, the group said.
