NSCDC to train 3,000 teachers on security, safety skills in Ogun

As part of activities marking the 2020 World Civil Defence Day, the Commandant General, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Alhaji Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has approved the training of about 3000 school teachers in Ogun State in security and safety skills.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Commandant of the Corps in Ogun State, Alhaji Hammed Abodunrin, during a day training workshop for school children in the state.

Abodunrin said the training which will take the”Train the Trainers” the form would be the capacities of the teachers in the fundamentals of security and protection needs of the school children in the state.

The NSCDC boss said the teachers are expected to domesticate the training in all the schools by giving the students the security and safety tips.

He informed that the NSCDC Act empowers the corps to demarcate disaster areas, warn and educate the public of their security and safety always.

“It is on this note that the CG has magnanimously approved this training for teachers in order to make it continuous in various schools.”

“There is also no need to entertain the fear of oversaturation of curriculum as the tips will only be taught as extracurricular activities especially during morning assemblies daily,” he said.

He disclosed further that the CG had released enough resources to train the officers of the Corps in the state who would, in turn, facilitate the training of the beneficiaries.

Declaring the workshop open at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Olakunle Oluomo commended the initiative and pledged the legislators’ support for anything that would enhance the security and wellbeing of the citizens of the state.

The speaker who was represented by his deputy, Hon Dare Kadiri noted that the state as the industrial hub of the nation deserves a safe environment that can sustain the influx of people on a daily basis.
