NSCDC officers allegedly torture man to death in Ondo

A middle-aged man, Razak Ahmed, has been allegedly tortured to death by men of the Ondo State Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) while in their custody over allegation of incestuous behaviour.

Ahmed was said to have been arrested by the men of the state command of NSCDC for allegedly having carnal knowledge of his own daughter.

It was gathered that the deceased was arrested on Sunday after a filing formal complaint by her 12-year-old daughter and was detained by the command.

A family source, however, said the deceased was tortured by the security agents over his refusal to own up to the offence but he was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning when his family visited him at the command.

The source explained that: “It was one of his daughters, from another woman who reported the case at the NSCDC station in Akure, on Sunday, and he was beaten to death by the men of the corps today ( Tuesday).”

A younger sister of the deceased, Mrs Taiwo who spoke with newsmen confirmed that the deceased was beaten to death with stick.

She said: “It was one of his daughters that lied against him at the NSCDC office and he was then arrested and taken to their office.

“In their cell, they started beating him with sticks because he told them he did not commit the offence. The torture was too much that he gave up the ghost and he was taken to the mortuary by the men of the corps.”

She, however, called on the state government, human rights organisations to assist the family to get justice, saying the NSCDC officials had been scheming to sweep the case under the carpet.

The family also called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to investigate the alleged killing of their son in the custody of the Ondo State Command of the NSCDC.

Efforts to speak to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Samuel Oladipo, were unsuccessful as he did not pick calls put through his mobile phone. He failed to reply a text message sent to him by Tribune Online.
