A Police sergeant attached to Dutse division and a commercial driver were shot by an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Dutse, Jigawa State capital.

Saturday Tribune gathered that they were shot at the gate of the state headquarter of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) during a reconciliation gathering between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and officers of the FRSC Federal Road Safety Corps  on Friday.

The crisis started when officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) mounted a check point at the early hours of Friday, arresting motorists massively.

An eye witness said the FRSC blocked both sides of dual the carriage Kiyawa road.

An eye witness account noted that the FRSC arrested some drivers and the situation provoked members of the NURTW and a demonstration began.

The eye witness added  that the FRSC immediately called on the police for protection as well as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Officers of the NSCDC arrived the scene at a later time and started shooting sporadically into the air.

“An NSCDC official allegedly shot dead a commercial driver Hussaini Andaza and injured a police sergeant working with the Dutse division,” the anonymous witness said.

Security meetings are ongoing between members of the FRSC, NSCDC and the police. Efforts to get comments from any of the security agencies proved abortive as the respective Public Relations Officers (PRO) declined to speak.
