The Niger State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said it has apprehended several suspects who specialise in burglaries and phone snatchings, though other suspects are still at large.
The personnel of the Corps were able to successfully foil and repel a string of daring burglars and phone snatchers within Minna metropolis.
The State Commandant NSCDC Niger State Command, Commandant Adamu Abdullahi Kambra, stated this in a press statement issued and made available to the newsmen on Friday in Minna by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar Rabi’u Muti, highlighting that on December 27, 2024, at approximately 4:30 am, four suspects allegedly broke into a residential house along Sauka-Kahuta area in Minna.
The statement added that the suspects, identified as Usman Ibrahim (aka Abba Dawa) (Male, 22 years old), Jibrin Muhammad (Male, 22 years), Baba Alhaji and one Dan Birnin Gwari are currently at large.
The suspects were said to have allegedly threatened the occupant, demanding money, and forcefully collected various items, including:
The arrest was said to have been carried out by the NSCDC Operation Flush team.
In a separate incident, the Commandant narrated that two suspected phone snatchers were arrested on December 31, 2024, at approximately 22:30 hours, when a young lady was returning from Bosso after attending a church service.
The lady was said to have been accosted by two individuals along Stadium Junction, near Unguwan Daji area in Minna.
The suspects were identified as Aliyu Abubakar Muhammad (Male, 27 years) and Aliyu Usman (Male, 23 years old) and were said to have been caught red-handed with knives and had threatened their victim, who was returning from the Bosso area.
The Commandant, in the statement, further emphasised that, as soon as investigations are concluded, all the suspects will be arraigned in court for diligent prosecution.
The Commandant, however, used the medium to warn those involved in criminal activities to desist and allow peace to reign, just as he urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
Commandant Abdullahi Kambra thereby expressed gratitude to the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, and the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, for their continuous support, stressing that the Command remains committed to maintaining law and order in the state.
