A 46-year-old woman, Grace Etiefon has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command for alleged human trafficking.
Etiefon who hails from Akwa Ibom state was apprehended by men of the Corps when she was about sending her victim, Miss Njideka Akinpelu, 30-year old to Lagos for onward movement to Libya for prostitution.
Mr David Bille, The Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr David Bille who paraded the suspect before newsmen on Thursday at the command headquarters in Awka, said the suspect was arrested at a Lagos-bound motor park at the popular Unizik Junction, Awka, on said the date.
Bille said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was been taken to Libya where she would be used for prostitution.
The victim from Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government of Anambra State said she was a petty trader at Unizik Junction before the suspect came and offered to assist her to Libya for a better life.
Bille used the opportunity to warn residents of the area against relationship with people of dubious motives.
The NSCDC Commandant, however, stated that the Corps would not hesitate in the clampdown of syndicates of human trafficking and other crimes in the state.
He said the suspect would be handed over to National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for more investigations and prosecution, adding that Etiefon’s action contravened Human Rights Act.

He, however, called on the general public to avail the Corps of useful information and warned perpetrators of such acts to move out of the state.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State police command, have declared kinsmen of renowned author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie wanted, over a protracted tussle for ownership of a parcel of land in the state.

Billionaire oil magnate, Engr Arthur Eze who hails from Ukpo community has been fingered as the hand behind the crisis, while renowned author, Adichie who hails from Abba has accused Arthur Eze of working to diminish, intimidate and humiliate his people to appropriate their land.
In a press statement by the Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday night, SP Haruna Mohammed, the command’s spokesman said a warrant of arrest had been obtained against some Abba indigenes.
The statement stated, “We wish to inform the general public that warrants of arrest was obtained by the Police in respect of the following suspects over alleged cases of conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace at Ukpo in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State.”
The command listed the names of those to be arrested as Pius Nweke, Isaac Nwafor, Engr. Bennett Anekwe, “all males of Abba Community in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State.
”The statement further stated that, “The Command enjoins the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the aforementioned suspects to contact the nearest Police Station/formations for prompt action.
