NSCDC deploys 1,227 personnel for Jigawa council polls

Ahead of the July 1 council elections in Jigawa, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command in the state on Friday said it deployed 1,227 personnel to ensure hitch-free elections.  The NSCDC Spokesperson in the state, Mr Adamu Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.  He said officers were deployed across the 27 local government areas of the state, noting that the gesture was to provide adequate security before, during and after the elections.  He added that “we have deployed a special force comprising Special Armed Squad and Counter Terrorism Squad to ensure adequate security, before, during and after the local government elections in Jigawa.  “Also, officers in Anti-riot, Bomb Detection and Disposal unit, Intelligence and Detective unit, as well as Rescue and Medical team, including regular officers, were deployed in all the 27 councils.”  The spokesperson said some officers would be stationed at strategic locations, while others would be stationed to help in crowd control.  Abdullahi added that the corps had taken proactive measures to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections in the state.  He, therefore, advised the people to cooperate with security personnel for a hitch-free elections.  He further urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest security formation within their localities.
