NIGER State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspected Boko Haram members in Minna metropolitan areas of the state capital.
The suspects were identified as Usman Al-Amin 20 year- old and Sanusi Ibrahim Bala in a statement by the state Command’s Public Relation Officer, Ibrahim Yahaya. It said they were arrested at different locations within the state capital.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the duo were alleged to have been under surveillance for some time by the undercover operatives.
The statement stated further that one of the suspects, Al-Amin always pretended to be insane in the day time but, reverted to his normal self at night, when he would make several calls to his members elsewhere.
“Apparently unaware that he was being monitored, he will make calls at night to persons we suspected were their members. It was at this point that it became apparent to us that he is not a mad man.”
According to the statement, the suspects presently undergoing interrogation, which will aid security agents in arresting other members of the group still on the run.
Some of the exhibits said to have been recovered from the suspects were table knife, memory card, SIM card, flash drive, a dog chain and phones, which the command said were being used in its investigation.
The statement quoted the state commandant, NSCDC, Mr Phillip Ayuba as urging the public to be vigilant, as the sect members who were dislodged from the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, were desperately looking for refuge among the civilian population.
It said security agencies in the state were synergising in their effort of eliminating the society of criminal elements, while also calling on the citizens to report any suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities.
Similarly, the Osun State command of NSCDC on Thursday arrested three suspected cattle rustlers, Abu Hamisu, Aliru Lawal and Sulaiman Musa, for allegedly terrorising a Onikoyi farm settlement in Ayedaade local government area of Osun State.
They were arrested at about 5:30 am following a tip-off from the community.
Hamisu and Lawal were said to be from the Gbangudu local government area, while Musa was said to be from Gusau local government area in Zamfara State
Parading the suspects, Osun State commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Philips Ayodele said his command received privileged information from the palace of the traditional ruler, which led to the arrest of the rustlers.
