NRC targets movement of cattles from Yobe to Lagos

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has said that arrangement is in top gear for the downward movement of cattles by rail from Yobe State to Lagos State. This is even as the corporation stated that it had already moved 450 cattles from Zamfara to Lagos recently.

Speaking with Nigerian Tribune in an exclusive chat, the spokesman of the NRC, Mahmood Yakub, explained that the restiveness in the North-Eastern part of the country is currently delaying downward transfer of cattles from there to Lagos.

According to Mahmood Yakub, “Although we have been transporting cattles from Yobe to Kano regularly, we intend to start bringing those cattles down to Lagos from Yobe State. What is currently delaying us is the restiveness of that region.

“By the time we start transporting cattles from Yobe to Lagos, operation will commence from Nguru area in Yobe State. We have already made all necessary arrangements to transport cattles to Lagos from there.

“We just brought in 450 cattles from Zamfara to Lagos recently. We expect this to slash the cost of cattles, ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebration in Lagos. We have 15 dedicated wagons that carry 30 cattles, so we expect this to continue even after the Sallah celebration.

“This operation had been suspended by the NRC for over 30 years now, but we are commencing this operation fully again,” he said.
