Performing the commissioning of the boat procured by Onne Port, Abubakar,  said that the speed boat was purchased to serve the Marine Police within the operational area of Onne Port.

“The reason for acquiring this boat is to provide security and to aid your men in marine police to provide regular surveillance of all the waterways within the jurisdiction of Onne Port,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude that this boat came at a time it was most needed for marine police to be on top of their work in providing security. Abubakar observed that the boat is state of the art water-craft, strong and well built.

He said that security of life, property and the facilities within Onne Port is of utmost priority to his leadership, and expressed joy that since he assumed office as the Port Manager last year, that there has been tremendous improvement in the security status of the port.

He said that as at the time he arrived, the port facility was operating on ISPS Code level two, but expressed joy that the situation has now changed.

“As we speak the ISPS Code level of internationally recognised security status of Onne Port has moved to level one, meaning that security in and around Onne Port has changed,” he added.

The Onne Port Manager noted that the current security status level of Onne Port has been Okayed by NIMASA. He said it was a welcome development that NIMASA now lowered security level at Onne Port from two to one.

“We are now like any other Port in Nigeria that enjoys high level of relative peace within Onne Port operational zone,” Abubakar said.

He further noted that Onne water is safe, and urged port users, importers to feel free to come to Onne Port for their business.
