Published by

In a bid to ensure smooth election processes in the forthcoming off-cycle Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States scheduled for Saturday, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered a watertight security operation in the affected states.

This announcement was made in a statement released to the press in Abuja on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Additionally, the Police Chief has directed the distribution of an additional 220 operational vehicles, including water cannons, Armored Personnel Carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, tear gas canisters, etc., to the three affected states to intensify security arrangements for the elections.

According to the statement, the IGP had previously organised training sessions for the police personnel who will be involved in election security management.

He also sought the approval of the Federal Government for the payment of their allowances and other necessary support to boost the morale of the officers during the operations.

Furthermore, the statement emphasized that the IGP has urged all stakeholders in the affected states to embrace peace, uphold the sanctity of the rule of law, and be law-abiding in their endeavours before, during, and after the elections, as the Police and other security agencies are on high alert to prevent any unruly acts capable of disrupting the elections in any of the states.”
