Nothing illegal about PDP election process ―defeated candidate

Published by
One of the candidates for the Deputy National Publicity Secretary post of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamidele Salam, has praised the election process at the party’s national convention which ended Sunday morning saying that nothing illegal took place in it.
He had managed to score 721 votes to emerge second to the eventual winner who got 1,300 votes at the election.
However, contrary to claims by some candidates who described the process as unfair because of the sudden appearance of a “unity list,” Salam said he did not observed any untoward development during the exercise.
He said: “I was at the convention of the PDP held yesterday in Abuja. I was there as an aspirant to the office of the National deputy publicity secretary and a stakeholder in the party. At the end of the exercise, I scored 721 votes while the winner had over 1,300 votes.
“I observed the proceedings from the beginning to the end and found nothing illegal or fraudulent with the exercise.
“I spoke to my 12 year old son by phone this morning. I  congratulated him for coming first in a Spelling Bee competition held yesterday  and then told him I lost the party election. I explained that I lost because more people preferred the team that won to the one I aligned with.
“He said ‘God will favour you sir! ‘ I felt on top of the world that I have such a young boy who appreciates the God factor after every  hard work.
“Of course I have my reservations about certain elements in the new leadership of the party but the beauty of democracy is in accepting its outcomes regardless of whether they satisfy our fancies.
“I thank my wife and children for the essential support of the home front. I thank those group of young men and women who took to their online spaces to promote my aspiration. I thank the group of volunteers who went round the pavilions at the Eagle Square to talk to delegates about me. I thank the 721 delegates who chose me as their preferred candidate.
“Above all I thank God for His enduring mercies and goodness. I pray God blesses Nigeria with men and women whose overiding motive in politics is selfless service. God bless your week!”
