Norwegian govt, UNFPA partner Gombe to scale up girl-child education

Norwegian Government in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are to partner in order to strengthen girl-child education and family health issues in Gombe State.

This was the outcome of collaborative review meeting held on Friday between Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of in his office, with the visiting Norwegian Government’s First Secretary, Mari Lundeby and the Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund ( UNFPA), Erika Godson.

According to a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Governor, the discussions centred around strengthening partnership and collaboration between Gombe state Government and development bodies in tackling maternal mortality, girl-child education and other development challenges.

He disclosed that during the meeting, the duo commended the Governor Inuwa Yahaya led administration’s human capital development initiatives and assured him of their willingness to scale up their activities in Gombe State as well as explore other areas of collaboration outside the health sector.

The delegation had earlier undertaken a tour of some healthcare facilities and educational institutions to assess the level of the ongoing implementation of reproductive health programmes in the state.

The team also paid a courtesy visit on the Governor at the Government House Exco Chamber on Thursday after their assessment tour in the state.
